Question:
When things like this happen, it's easy to get frustrated... certainly
I'd like to scream at Google, but I do realize that their overall goal
is to make search better and I am 100% for that. In all honesty, if I
can just build pages for my visitors and not have to try to make
Google happy than that is a great thing for us and the web in
general. What's happening now just doesn't make much sense. Their
are good quality sites that are basically getting filtered out to the
bottom of results. And the characteristics of these sites seem
random.. some with advertising, some without advertising... some
content sites, some e-commerce sites... some pages with very little
content, some pages with lots of content... some pages with high
keyword density and some with very little.... It almost appears
random.
I just have to wonder if they realize that their filter has caught a
lot of sites that really don't appear to deserve it. I mean,
about.com is all over in Google. Their resume samples main page use
to rank top 3. They still have a subpage top 10, but their main
resume samples directory page that ranked well is now found in
ommittted results. This makes no sense and you aren't going to
convince me that that particular page is using some sort of dishonest
tactics to get it's ranking.
I don't expect to be #1 for the KW resume. I don't think I deserve
top 10 rankings for certain terms.. nothing is "owed" to me. I totally
understand that. I just want people who are looking for specific
searches to be able to find me. Their are probably 300 search terms
that are incredibly specific, such as "sample accountant resume" that
we are specifically delivering. I am just saying, c'mon now.. we are
#1 on every other search engine for that term, but Google has me at
about 10 spots from the dead last result #688. I'm sorry but that is
not right..
So.. its not as though they took away the big keywords, they took away
our specific keywords?
Answer:
1st of all I seen some things I would not do But start with this first
You are spreading yourself thin for focused search
your key words
resume, free resume examples, resume examples, resume samples, cover
letter samples, cover letter, cover letter examples, free cover
letter, free resume, resume templates, resume format, online resume,
resume writing examples samples, resume writing, resme, writing,
services, resume help, resume articles, resume services, resume
posting, free resumes, write a resume
You are doing it right with keyword & keyword phrases but there are to
many avenues to find you.
if you are about resumes just for your first page narrow the focus too
top page "Resumes at resume resource"
resume, resume examples, resume examples, resume samples, up to like
10-15 keywords
Then on your other page title "Resume Cover letters"
cover letter samples, cover letter, cover letter examples, up to like
10-15 keywords
Do you see where if the content of the page match closer to your key
words you make you page
note I say PAGE streamlined for that search
you are not streamlining your site and don't try too.
Power play each page as if it is a site of its own.
