Question:
here will know that Art regularly suggests that people
considering a science or
technology career would do better thinking about becoming a truck driver
instead, whereas
my opinion is otherwise.
I just checked my email, and there was a message from someone at
driverscareers.com
the went something like the following:
"I just found your resume on-line, and would like to invite you to
consider an
opportunity to become a driver with Xxxxx Transportation. For more
information
and to apply, go to driverscareers.com."
(Just for the record, I do not intend to follow up on this "opportunity".)
Answer:
-I find this amusing, but I don't quite see why it is ironic.
For all we know, the truck driving industry is so in need of drivers that
they've stooped to deceptive spamming.
I certainly don't see any engineering or research companies trying to hook
people with spam.
-1. I'm not sure any of you guys are using the word 'ironic' properly.
(shades of "Waiting for Godot")
2. Rich said the opportunity was sent him because they found his resume
on-line. Did Rich have his resume posted on the net? I thought he already
had some job. Aren't you supposed to take your resume down if you are NOT
looking for a job any more?
3. What is ironic is that Rich says he's not going to go in that
direction, but he certainly _did_ go from PhD-requiring jobs to,
presently, a nonPhd-requiring job.
4. And, with this experience, he still blows the horn for going into
science.
