Question:
Executive Guide Job Pocket Resume Roi Search and math research career websites?
I am looking for any websites that are specifically geared to math
research careers or other jobs available for mathematicians only.
Answer:
-I appreciate your aspirations Paul, but I would recommend that you seek
out websites that might attract the 50s+ crowd and find out what they
did to deal with beig downsized out of a career. The math society (see my
resource list below for the website) might tell you if they have any
concern for other than the fact that large proportions of newly minted
math PhDs can't find work. You might look for support groups in a nearby
large city. Where I am, there is one for "55+ and need a job" and a phone
number (I have not called them, but plan on it someday) to see what they
can and cannot do. Some states have offices for helping elderly people
find work. Look at the AARP website, and use the search engines and plug
in some keywords. Your other possibility might be high school teaching but
I'd look into reports on how many of the students are routinely carring
weapons and the assault rate on teachers
- The web site http://www.phds.org contains a huge amount of material on
science careers. As I am a mathematician myself, much of the material I've
placed on the site is of particular interest to the mathematically
inclined. In fact, you can set a switch on the site to show only the
materials of interest to mathematicians (or physicists or chemists, etc)
