Question:
I have a job fair to go to on Saturday. My resume packet consists of 10
pages. Should I copy them singly (one side only) or back-to-back?
Answer:
I can see you guys are having some trouble with this, so I thought I
would throw in my "two cents." I am kind of an expert on resume
writing, so I will do whatever I can to help.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "But Wavy, aren't you unemployed?"
Yes. Yes I am. But if you think about it, I have had WAY more free
time on my hands to prefect my resume writing techniques, than say,
somewon who has a job.
So here it is! My "Top 5 Resume Writing Tips"
1) The longer, the better. 10 pages AT LEAST. You want to give them as
much superfluous information as possible. Quantity is always better
than quality.
2) Avoid printing on white paper--everywon's resume is white. You want
your resume to stand out from the rest. Go with a hot pink, or a
goldenrod, maybe even a baby blue. To a potential employer, a nice
coloured resume will stand out like a sore thumb.
3) Avoid being truthful whenever possible. Nobody ever checks up on
these things, so you might as well embellish a little (read: "A LOT,"
lol), to make yourself sound like the world's greatest employee.
3) Always include a headshot. No matter what job you're going for, you
want go at it as if you're an up-and-coming actress trying to get her
break on Broadway.
4) Try to avoid using swear words, or things that you think might make
you sound "cool." Remember: you're not talking to your dope-head
friends here, you're writing a resume.
5) ALWAYS ALWAYS AWLAYS end with a poem.
