Question:
I have been following this website for a couple of months now and
have bought and read Dr. Bear's book, COLLEGE DEGREES BY MAIL. I have
also sent off for course catalogs from about twenty different colleges
offering DL courses.
I have 24 credits from classes at a traditional university, I have
military experience and have lived in Japan for about ten years,
during which time I have become fairly proficient in spoken Japanese.
(My Kanji is still weak because I do all of my writing with a Japanese
computer rather than by hand)
My question is this: Does anyone know where I can obtain a copy of a
resume that was successful in gaining credit for life experience at
Thomas A. Edison or Regents College? I would just like to check out
the format and get an idea of what is expected before I try to compile
one myself.
Answer:
-Composing your own resume and assessment portfolio is a great learning
experiance. Thomas Edison State College puts out a good Portfolio
Handbook. It's free. Call 609 984-1141 or got to http://www.tesc.edu
and email your request. I am retired miltary and was assessed 79 credit
hrs, however, only 27 were applied to my BS degree. The book will
explain this.
-I just realized that my address was incomplete, although any replies
should probably posted in the news group for everyone's benefit.
-CAEL, the Council for the Assessment of Experiential Learning, in Chicago,
used to sell a very large binder full of copies of actual portfolios of
all kinds. I thought this was a fine service, and I don't know why they
stopped not too long ago. Of course each school has its own rules and
expectations, but it was nice to see a broad sample of what has been done.
But I'm not aware that anyone else has stepped in to fill this gap.
