Question:
I'm getting an interview (my first) for a media related internship and
have a quick question for you professionals - what do you want to see on my
resume? I'm not sure if it's kosher to include school projects but none of
my prior work experience has anything to do with the field (again, this is
my first attempt). Any hints would be awesome.
Answer:
-Show you can write, you can reason, and you can take a lot of B.S.
requests and orders without losing your cool. Show you can solve
problems. Show you can deal with people. Show you are interested in the
business, that you at least have read enough to have some working
vocabulary. Never try to pass off that you know something when you
don't. Show you are curious, creative, and punctual. Show that you
finish what you start.
That's good especially the writing.
And, since this is a communications medium -- show that you can
communicate!!! That includes proper grammar, spelling, etc. Make it look
pretty with a good format on paper. Every word processing program comes
with at least one resume template. Use it.
-Brevity and clarity. Spare me your dreams. What do you want? What can you
do for me? That's it. And follow up. Don't expect them to call you.
