Resume writing service

Question:
Anybody know a good resume writing service in NYC or on the Internet? I'm looking for the same and all i've found so far is resume.com anyone else know of a place??

Answer:
What is the compelling need here for a service to write your resume? The major problem with using a service is that it no longer is a personal statement. The feel and sound of it becomes professional and even to the inexperienced hiring manager, it comes across. You need to be able to do three things: 1)send a cover letter and resume that gets you an interview 2)have a 30 second commercial that sums up your experience and education - a summary of your resume 3)and be ready to answer the standard technical/professional interview questions using your experience/education accomplishments and resume as reference. You need to say things like, as you can see from the work I did at... or I tried to note that under the .... you want the manager making notes on your resume as he listens to you. That way you move out of the pack or stack. Unless you are a good actor, reading someone else's script is much more difficult than reading your own. You are the only one who knows the nuances and subtle points that you want to make.

But how do I make my resume - go to the other websites where people post their resumes and spend some time reading alt.jobs.resumes, ba.jobs.resumes, seattle.jobs.resumes, nj.jobs.resumes, nc.jobs.resumes, il.jobs.resumes or fl.jobs.resumes and austin.jobs.resumes and israel.jobs.resumes - misc.jobs.resumes, us.resumes.jobs - you get the point I'm sure. Look and copy those that have features you like, then just be sure you have a section with education, one with experience, one with certification and professional stuff like languages or harware, a introductory summary and a personal data header, the objective is optional - BUT no references (these go on a separate sheet unless you are doing a U.N. cv - http://www.un.org/Depts/OHRM/guidenew.htm - it is a good general outline also ) and NO controversial sections like personal - or hobbies - or green card applied for. If you must say something like your a flag waving republican, Jesus loving red neck, Bambie killing NRAer, or H1B visa wannabee say it in the cover letter. In the experience, describe the job responsibilities and then add bullets that list measured accomplishments. 60% reduction in cost. 25% increase in up time, No Age, no sex, no married status, no # of dependents if you are in the US, no picture unless your 36DDs are your major certification (I suppose that the tightness of your butt and other lengths might be important if you are targeting your companies but that is another issue)- we discussed these in depth in another thread - After 8 years in the military I'm new to this job hunting thing. My resume gets viewed on the internet, but I never get any emails asking for an interview. I put up my cell phone# but I still never got any calls. So I thought the resume might be the bottleneck.
