Question:
I just recently passed the NCLEX and now I need to find
a job. Does anyone know off any good sites to visit for
help on writing a resume.
Answer:
-You might try your school's library or even the nursing department's
office.
My school offers assistance to any graduate who needs it.
-We couldn't graduate until our resume was written and approved by both nursing
staff and vocational counselor. It had to be laser printed and everything-just
like you would hand it over to a prospective employer. One of the best things
they did for us in the last month before graduation. It got a grade like any
assignment.
When you write your resume, take it to the counselor at your school who is
responsible for job placement to approve, and also show it to a couple of your
old instructors. They know a lot of tricks and what works and what doesn't. I
was really surprised to learn what employers REALLY want on a resume for
nursing.
I used a resume template on my computer to set it up.
-I don't know about where you live but I know that we have career development
services at the college here, and also you might want to try a professional
organization, and example The Registered Nurses Association of Ontario
http://www.rnao.org offers career planning services to it's members and they
offer discounted rates for membership to students and new grads. However
since you write the NCLEX, and not the CNA I would say it is safe to assume
you live in the US and RNAO won't be much help.
