Question:
Would having this degree on one's resume be considered fraud or
second-rate? Just curious about a job listing for a real estate sales
position requiring a current CA state real estate license and a
Bachelor's degree being highly preferred. Upon passing a DETC
accredited CA real estate prep course one is eligible to take the
state licensing examination. Just curious if having a DETC Bachelor's
degree as well would be questionable?
Answer:
- Absolutely not. DETC is recognized by both the US Dept of Education and the
Council for Higher Education. The is absolutely nothing fraudulent,
second-rate or questionable about a DETC accredited degree.
- A DETEC degree is not regionally accredited. I would venture to say
that a non-RA degree would be considered second rate. Yes DETEC is an
accrediting body so having that credential is helpful. However, if that
school were not able to meet the standards of regional accreditation then
its degree's would be considered questionable by many employers and
licensure agencies..
- A DETC accredited school is legitimate, and recognized by the proper
agencies. There is no reason to think any less of a DETC accredited
degree. It's not questionable or sub-standard education in any way.
- There is no problem with DETC accredited degree.
DETC is National Accreditor and increasing number of R.A Universities
accept DETC degree for admition in to Graduate program.
In different surveys it showed in the past that DETC acceptability was
inferior to RA grads.
So there is valid concern about having a 2nd rate degree.
But in Real Estate industry I don't know if this is so important.
If you were applying to NASA, IBM or Boing then this could have played
a grater roll.
