Question:
The subject sys it all!!
I am having a little trouble finding a good resume writing software.
Any suggestions for a good one or a good place to start looking for one
would be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
- What do you expect from the resume writing s/w?
If it's layout and presentation, you should peruse the resumes of people you
consider successful, and emulate what you like in their examples. I'm sure you
can get all sorts of resumes from this website community, if you ask for
them.
Otherwise I can not see why you might want a resume writing program. Consider
this: You want to stand out with your calling card (resume), show that you are
differnt, special, unique. A run-of-the-mill program-generated resume insures
that your resume has nothing that makes it stand out.
Also: It's your experience and qualifications you want to showcase.
Therefore, there is no canned substitute for your own writing it.
What I have found very helpful is the review by peers. They have given me ideas
on what to stress, and where to cut back. Furthermore, you will revise your
resume many times, initially weekly, later every few months. That is normal.
Best wishes for a blockbuster resume.
- Why not check out your local software stores. There are a number of good
resume programs offered at modest prices. I used a good one from Spinnaker
when I was writing a book on the subject, but there are others.
