Answer:
-People usually charge for this kind of services. And it definitely looks like you need a professional help to rewrite this resume.

-What's so wrong with it? Looks fine to me just offhand. I stress offhand, but even if it needed tweaking here and there, I don't see why it "definitely" needs "professional help".

-Off hand, the grammar is attrocious. Since the author has no clue how bad, I would agree that he would benefit greatly from a professional resume writing service.

There seems to be a popular notion on this website that communications skills are not important in the areana of technology. This is an eroneous premise, and often is more important than the technology skill sets the candidate offers. This has to do with the fact that business relies heavily on effective oral and written communications. To many techies are oblivious to this fact, and become very defensive when their weaknesses are pointed out.

And drop the reference to being one of the 4 best school aged programmers in the country. It only begs the question - what the hell happened to the potential?

Lastly, I understand that ASCII text formats are the prefered format for resume scanning systems, but even with ASCII, ehsetically pleasing formating is not a difficult challenge.

Your resume is the tool that markets you to potential employers. May I explain to those looking for a job that the hiring manager will get a lot of resumes. The first time they go through them, is not to select the best ones, but to reject the substandard ones. Anyone knows what happens when you write code that has syntax errors? The same thing that happens when you write a resume with syntax errors. It doesn't compile, it won't compute, and you'll end up in the reject bin faster than greased lightening.

So if you have the skills and experience, don't blow the opportunity by submitting anything but a perfect document. If you don't have the skills to produce one yourself - yes, get yourself a professional resume writing service, and outsource the function. If it is not part of your core skills, have the insight to assign the task to somebody who does. It's not cheating. Unless the job you are applying for is a technical writer, or documentation specialist, if you don't have superior communication skills, then hire somebody to market your skill sets. Hire a professional writer!

If you sent that resume to me, I would wonder why you sent your first rough draft, and judge your work and abilities on that document. Needless to say, I would not consider it. And as busy as I was with the 100's or 1000's or resumes for the same position, I wouldn't even try and wade through it to look at your skills. It would be too painful, and not worthy of my time.

I know this sounds harsh, but seriously consider what I have said. Your resume is the tool that you market yourself with and it reflects everything about you. There is no second chance. The impression is made in the first few lines, and you have to capture and retain the readers attention. If you fail to do so, you will not get an interview.

Lastly, to comment upon scanning resumes for keywords, you must understand that if your resume is flagged as meeting the qualifications, then it will be directed to a person. If that person reads it and determines it is a substandard document, you will still be rejected.

So I hope my comments illuminate the employer's perspective, rather than offend those seeking employment.
