Question:
My Wife would like to compose a resume, updating it with her current skills
and past work experience. I would appreciate someone either posting or
e-mailing me some sample resumes or else a source for samples that deal
with specialized nursing skills. A cover letter example would be nice too.
She is currently working as a RN in an ICU that handles transplants and
post-ops (forgive me if I have the terminology wrong) at a major Houston
hospital.
Answer:
- Don't have any sample resumes myself but I can recommend a book. It may
not be in print any longer but the title is:
Career Planning in Nursing by Janie Brown Nowak and Cecelia Gatson Grindel.
It was published in 1984. There are chapters on career planning,
networking,
the job-seeking process, resumes, the interview, and contracts and salary
negotiations.
The resume chapter has sample resumes that cover just about every aspect
of a nurse looking for a job from a new grad, to a nurse returning to the
workforce, etc. I strongly recommend it to the nursing students here
at JHU.
- As a nurse recruiter, I have seen thousands of nurse!s resumes.
It would be difficult to send you samples that have real meaning because
every nurse has a different background and would need a slightly
differentt presentation. However, I!ll offer to review the resume your
wife develops and give you specific guidence (if needed) that would be
pertinent to her background and needs.
