Question:
After 4 years of having plenty of work, things are slowing down enough that I"m
looking for another account. I would like to send a cover letter and my
business card to potential clients. I have 2 questions:
1. Does anyone have a sample cover letter I could look at to get some ideas
how I want to word this letter?
2. Would you or would you not send your resume along with the cover letter
and business card? I have mixed feelings about it and am not sure whether this
would be beneficial at this stage of the game. Your thoughts?
Answer:
- I would not send resume, but note on the cover letter that it is available
upon request. When I have my interview with potential clients I then
attached it with more information about my business and passed it out to the
docs so they can see my experience in the MT field.
- I have had a lot of success with brochures. Offices get lots of letters and
resumes and usually overlook them or discard. take the time to make a nice
brochure and if they want references use a "client sheet" or "account
reference". Doesn't that sound better and more professional? I never present a
resume, I own a business and consider a resume job hunting. Think of yourself
as a professional and so will they. It just might help get the job over someone
else.
