Question:
I've found that I can no longer cope with the research and paper writing aspect
of graduate school. I am officially on leave from grad school this year, and
would like a job teaching (Spanish) in a high school or community college in
the New York City area. I am beginning my job search, and not sure how to go
about it. I think I'd prefer teaching in a private high school, but may
consider public schools. I am not certified, but very qualified with an MA (in
Spanish Literature) and 2 years of college teaching experience.
The first step is writing a resume, which I haven't done in many years.
I'd like to see what a teacher's resume looks like, so if someone has one thay
could send me by email (cut and paste it - no attatchments), I'd greatly
appreciate it.
I'd also like to get into contact with teachers in both public and private NYC
schools.
Answer:
-Don't mean to be discouraging but most teaching jobs in NY state
require NY accreditation. I'd like to hear from others about this. Are
private schools exempted from employing accredited teachers?
- Regardless of what state they operate in, private schools must use
certified teachers if they want their graduates to get a standard
diploma.
Where my parents teach, there are several denominational schools that
use uncertified teachers. Those students have to take the GED when
they graduate.
